Bu Bu Jing Xin Deleted Scene 1: Singing Talents

So after watching Bu Bu Jing Xin for the nth time (yes, apparently I am quite the masochist), I realized how many cute scenes from the book did not made it into the drama. Well, still coming down from my BBJX high, I decided to translate a few of those scenes. Enjoy J

Pretext: This scene occurs about a year after Fourth prince was made Emperor. He, Ruoxi, and Thirteenth are watching Chenghuan playing and singing with her cousins.

Scene 1: Singing Talents

Thirteenth listened intently and said, “What song are they singing? I have never heard such melody before.”

 “It’s probably a new song,” Yinzhen (Fourth prince) laughingly replied, “Do you remember the songs we used to sing when we were young? “

“I remembered them all,” Thirteenth answered

Yinzhen looked surprised, “All? I can only remember one or two.”

“What song do you remember?” I asked, interested, “Sing some for me.”

Yinzhen’s expression suddenly became strange whereas Thirteenth raised his hand to his mouth and cough, obviously trying to hide a laugh.

I looked at him, “Thirteenth prince, is there something funny? How can you just laugh by yourself?”

Thirteenth grinned and looked at Yinzhen out of the corners of his eyes, “I dare not to say. If you wish to know, let’s go somewhere else and talk.”

Yinzhen huffed, “This is you not daring? Say it. I can feel a bit at ease if it is say in front of me. If you talk about it behind my back, who knows what nonsense you’ll come up with?”

Through Yinzhen’s tone was biting, it also conveyed a happiness from deep within. Thirteenth prince and he were finally beginning to be like they were before. Even though it was only in some rare moments, most of the time Thirteenth was still very formal, but he was still satisfied. He was satisfied because Thirteenth prince’s demeanor was much better than last year when he was first released, happy because he knew, deep in Thirteenth’s heart, Yinzhen was still his beloved Fourth brother, Fourth brother-not a ruler he must always keep his manners around.

Thirteenth prince looked at me, smiling, “Have you ever heard Imperial brother sing?”

I shook my head and he started laughing, “You have to think of a way for him to sing for you, though I’m afraid it’s going to be difficult.”

I smiled and looked Yinzhen’s expressionless face, “Seemed like it’s not that pleasant sounding.”

“Aish,” Thirteenth sighed, “It can’t exactly be described as pleasant or unpleasant. It just…”

He trailed off, looking at Yinzhen.

Yinzhen smirked, “Finish the story,”

Thirteenth continued, still grinning, “At Imperial Father’s birthday banquet one year, when we were still young, Third brother played a song for everyone. Fourth brother was inspired and wanted to please Imperial Father by singing the song. Except, as soon as he opened his mouth, us younger kids had to hurriedly cover our ears. Fourteenth brother even hid under the table. The older princes bit their lips and endured. Only Imperial Father listened to him with a smile on his face. When he finished, thunders of applauses happily rang out from everywhere. We even hit our table in celebration. Even Third brother’s perfect zither playing that night didn’t garner such a response. Imperial brother had gotten first place.”

I covered my face and laughed, “Is that true? I really want to hear it and see.”

“From that night on,” Thirteenth said, “we always run at the mention of Fourth brother’s singing.  Thinking back, having only heard once in so many years is such a pity. If Imperial brother agreed to sing, please let me know in advance.”

Yinzhen silently walked ahead, not bothering to respond. Thirteenth and I looked at each other and burst out laughing.

The next scene will be when Fourth prince does sing for Ruoxi. We’ll see what her reaction will be ;)
