English Subbed Swordsman 9-minute Trailer

I'm kind of on the fence about the upcoming Swordsman starring Wallace Huo, Yuan Shan Shan, and Chen Qiao En. On the pro list, Wallace Huo is ridiculously pretty. Everything from his outfits to hairstyle fits him well. Also, I believe he could pull off playing Linghu Chong. On the con list, there's everything else. First and foremost, Qiao En as Dongfang Bubai. Seriously, Yu Zheng, seriously? The girl looks nothing like gender bender Dongfang Bubai. In fact, I think she
looks even better than Yuan Shan Shan. Also, from the trailers and stills she have amazing chemistry with Wallace Huo, and I refused to ship Linghu Chong and Dongfang Bubai together. Why isn't she playing Ren Ying Ying?! I have nothing against Yuan Shan Shan, but my favorite performance from her to date is still that brief appearance she did in Strange Hero. My biggest problem with her is that all her roles, from Gong 2 to In Love With Power felt the same to me. It's like she's playing the same character over and over again. Ren Ying Ying is a
very three dimensional character, cold, sometimes cruel to the rest of the world but a completely different person with the one she loves. I want to see that difference accurately portrayed. The thing is, in the trailer, I don't see it in Yuan Shan Shan but I do see it in Qiao En. I mean, look at her carefree smile in her scene with Wallace, and then the cold look she gave her enemies. Yuan Shan Shan, on the other hand, just have the same expression throughout. Then there's also the insanity of having Wallace play Yan Liang Ting. Really? It's bad enough to have a loveline between Linghu Chong and Dongfang Bubai, but to have the same actor who play Linghu Chong to also play Dongfang Bubai's boytoy? Sigh, I guess all we can do is keep our fingers crossed.

At least the trailer is better than before. The colors seemed a lot more toned down than in the stills. When I saw those promotional posters, I was afraid of watching the drama for fear of going blind. This trailer is also more coherent than the previous one. On a different note, why is Han Dong nowhere seen in the whole 9 minutes? I know he's not playing a major part but you think they would at least show his face. I didn't even remembered that he was in this drama until I saw his picture when looking back at the stills.

Swordsman will be premiering on Feb 5th and I hope that if it's not good then it will fall into the "it's so bad it's good" category. We all need a little humor in our life right?
